The Philadelphia Eagles woke up on Sunday morning to tragedy.

Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead in his training camp room at Lehigh? University in Bethlahem, Pa. Garrett, 29, had been attending the camp with his father and assisting the Eagles? strength coaches.

?The news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family,? Eagles chairman Jeffrey Lurie said. ?Our hearts go out to Andy, his wife, Tammy, and their children.?

A 911 call was made at 7:20 a.m., Lehigh University chief of police Edward Shupp said, and Garrett Reid was found dead when an officer arrived at his room in the Sayre Park dormitories.

Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, Shupp said, and Northampton County coroner Zachary Lysek said he ?pronounced Mr. Reid deceased at the scene.

?The investigation will be ongoing,? Lysek added.?

Shupp added that ?there were no suspicious activities.?

Garrett Reid had battled several personal issues in recent years. In 2007, Garrett, high on heroin, reportedly slammed his SUV into another car, and police found drugs and syringes in his vehicle. During a subsequent stint in prison, he reportedly sneaked drugs into the facility. Two years later, in May 2009, Garrett Reid failed a drug test, landing behind bars once again.

The news rocked Eagles camp, and sent shockwaves through the NFL.

?We were saddened to learn of the passing of Garrett Reid this morning,? the Giants said in a statement on Twitter. ?Andy Reid and his family are in our thoughts and prayers.?

?My prayers 4 strength & Healing Father, 4 Coach Reid, Tammy and Family. RIP Garrett!!!!? former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins added from his Twitter account.

Reid was not at the team?s scheduled Sunday morning workout, although Eagles GM Howie Roseman said that the coach had requested the team work without him. Lurie, who canceled his annual state of the team address, said he expected Reid back this week.

?Today is one of life?s tough days,? Lurie said. ?Andy is a rock solid man. I think what makes him a great coach is his combination of compassion, feeling and strength. Losing a son is unimaginable. Losing a child is unimaginable ? the pain. Again, he is rock solid.?

Reid, in his 14th season as? head coach, took a leave of absense during the 2007 season to spend more time with Garrett and his four other children including Britt, who had his own drug and legal issues.

Eagles QB Michael Vick tweeted, ?My condolences go out to Coach Reid and his family. Stay strong and we LOVE you coach.?

Said Commissioner Roger Goodell: ?We are deeply saddened by the news about Garrett Reid.?
