ST. LOUIS, Sept. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Dan Duffy believes humor and shared experiences can give individuals diagnosed with cancer the strength they need to fight the deadly disease.
After he successfully beat testicular cancer ten years ago, Duffy was inspired to launch a non-profit organization, which combines his passion for the arts with helping others through their battles with cancer.
That inspiration gave way to The Half Fund. It was created to find and finance mass media appeal projects which raise awareness and educate the public about the realities of a cancer diagnosis. Upon the release of these projects, the revenue generated by them is split in half. Half will go to a cancer charity chosen by the artist. The other half will be used to recapitalize the fund for future artists, so the cycle begins again.
Co-Founder Joe Farmer says, "The Half Fund is truly the first non-profit of its kind. In addition to being a self-regenerating fund, we also benefit existing cancer charities. Our motto is 'Love, Art, Life.' Whether it's a children's book, a film, a benefit song, all of the projects created through this fund will change and save lives."
Duffy explains, "At some point in our lives, almost everyone will be affected by cancer. When someone hears those words 'You have cancer,' that individual's life and the lives of loved ones, change in an instant. Everything is intensified. The Half Fund is 'lifting the veil on cancer' and erasing the myopic experience. We are educating people in an entertaining way."
The first project to be financed through The Half Fund is the semi-autobiographical comedy film "Half" written by Duffy. The first charitable co-partner of The Half Fund is the American Cancer Society
